  1. Where do I cremate my pet?

The best idea would be to look through the yellow pages for neighbourhood pet cemeteries and crematoriums. A comprehensive list would be available. It is always better to deal on a personal basis with the crematorium authorities if you want to save a bit of money. An alternative would be to search for veterinarian clinics. All clinics throughout the country provide crematorium services. If you are still not able to get the services, a fall-back option would be to contact the local funeral home or veterinary school.

  2. How can I acquire my pet’s ashes?
Pet ashes are generally sent back to the owner in a temporary metal, cardboard or plastic container.  A plastic bag containing the ashes, fastened with a clip is kept in the container. Then it becomes easy to transfer the ashes to the urn,’ as is’. Usually a spare plastic bag is provided with the bag containing the ashes to transfer it into the urn in case of a narrow opening.

  3. What is the ideal pet urn size?
A general method to follow is to remember that one pound of body weight equals roughly one cubic inch of remains. Based on that, eighty pounds of weight should equal around hundred cubic inches of remains. The extra twenty cubic inches is accommodated just in case.

  4. What makes a good urn?
Urns are basically any container which the pet owner feels reflects the personality of the pet. They are selected suiting the nature and dignity of the passed pet. These urns are ‘tamper-resistant’ and cannot be prised open easily. They are usually screwed shut or have other means of resisting accidental openings.

  5. What does Communal Cremation mean?
The communal cremation is generally for those people who do not want to keep the remains of their pets but want to offer a respectful end to them. Thus this service is mostly for APS and veterinaries that are able to dispose their client’s animals in a respectful manner.

  6. What does Private Cremation mean?
When 2, 3 or even 4 pets are cremated at he same time but are separated by a row of cremation bricks or simple space, it’s known as private cremation. Their remains are then removed in the reverse order to retain the integrity of the cremation.  This type of cremation is cheaper as compared to individual cremation described below.

  7. How does Individual Cremation differ from Private Cremation?
The pet is cremated separately and its remains are kept in an urn of the owner’s choice. With every individual cremation, a certificate is issued for the cremation. Individual cremations are performed totally at the owner’s discretion. The ashes may be returned to the owner or they may be buried as the owner wants.
